Although the APOLOGETIC RESEARCH CENTER wasn't incorporated until August 28th 1995, its history precedes that date by nearly a decade. Its origins can be traced back to the year 1986, and the city of Youngstown, Ohio where it was the desire of Keith Jerome Posey and myself to provide the Christian Church with an organization that was structured specifically to defend the faith that was "once for all delivered unto the Saints." (Jude 3) Although Keith and I often discussed the formation of such an organization, these discussions were sporadic, and the organization remained informal; that is until May of 1993.
On the morning of May 15th, 1993, Keith was murdered on a bridge on the north side of Youngstown, Ohio. His death came less than three weeks before he was to move to Columbus, Ohio, and was a devastating loss to his family, his friends, and to the evangelism efforts of the city. On a personal note, Keith's death was a tremendous blow to me. I had grown to depend upon his friendship, his unwavering trust in Almighty God, and his formidable defense of God's Word. His funeral was held several days later, and was unlike any I had/have ever seen before. In death Keith continued to accomplish his life's work, evangelism. Upon hearing of Keith's deeds for Christ eulogized before those assembled at his funeral, several people pressed forward, seeking to come to know HE who could motivate such a man as this; and heaven greatly rejoiced.
After Keith's death, and seeking to bring to fruition the organization that he and I envisioned, I called a meeting of Jerry Robbins, Ronald Thompson, Thomas Young, and Robert McArthur on Saturday, November 19th, 1994 to what would eventually become the 1st annual meeting of the Apologetic Research Center. This group, along with myself, would become the Founding Board of Directors.
After 6 months of intense organizational meetings, this board hammered out and submitted its Constitution, and Articles of Incorporation to both the Internal Revenue Service, and the office of the Ohio Secretary of State Bob Taft. These documents are now recorded on Roll 5257 at frame 1071 of the Records of Incorporation and Miscellaneous Filings. ARC currently operates out of central and north-eastern Ohio.
